Assignments – Troubleshooting for Students

1. Problems with opening an assignment

If an assignment isn’t opening from the Content area, try accessing it directly through the Assignments’ section under Tools’ in the course navbar. This bypasses potential issues with content links.

In case you still can’t find the assignment, it’s possible that the instructor hasn’t made it available, or there could be a technical glitch. Contact your instructor to clarify.

2. Problems with submitting an assignment

File could not be uploaded

If you see an error message like “Oops, your file could not be uploaded,” ensure that your file name doesn’t include any special characters (such as <, >, :, “, /, \, |, ?, or *).

Additionally, make sure that the file is in a supported format (like .docx, .pdf, or .txt). Unsupported formats might be rejected by the system.

Submission button is not responding

If the submission button isn’t responding, try refreshing the page by clicking the refresh button on your browser or by using the shortcut Ctrl + R’ on Windows or Command + R’ on Mac.

If refreshing doesn’t resolve the issue, switch to a different browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. This often resolves compatibility issues.

Other submission failures

Submission failures can also be due to an unstable internet connection. Make sure you are connected to a stable network. If your connection is weak, consider moving closer to your router or switching to a wired connection if possible.

Furthermore, Pop-up blockers can interfere with submission processes, especially if they prevent necessary submission confirmation windows from appearing. Disable any pop-up blockers in your browser settings while submitting assignments.

If problems persist, clearing your browser’s cache and cookies can help. This removes any outdated data that might be causing issues.

3. Contact Technical Support

If none of the above solutions work, reach out to your institution’s service desk for further assistance. Provide them with details about the issue, including any error messages you received.

If this does not help as well, communicate the problem with the Keyuser of Brightspace from your own faculty.
