First go to Discussions. You can do this via the module:Or you can find it via the discussion Tool:The overview is called the Discussion list, all discussions from the course are visible here.

2. Topics and threads

A topic within a forum is where you can both post and read messages. A topic can also be seen as the title of a discussion. Within this topic, you can start a thread: an initial message to which others can reply with their own posts. Here’s how to create a thread:

Click on a topic from the Discussions homepage to view its description and any existing threads.Click on ‘Start a New Thread’.Enter a subject for your thread. Add your message, such as a question you want to ask or the purpose of creating the thread. When you create a thread, you will automatically receive notifications (via email) if someone replies. If you prefer not to receive these notifications, uncheck the option to subscribe to this thread by clicking on the box next to ‘Subscribe’. To attach a file, click ‘Add Attachments’. Then click ‘Upload’ and locate the file you want to attach. Click on ‘Post’ to submit your thread.

3. Reacting to a post

Select the title of the thread within a Discussion that you want to reply to.Click on ‘Reply to Thread’.Enter your response in the HTML-editor provided. If needed, attach a file by clicking ‘Add Attachments’, then select ‘Upload’. Click on ‘Post’ to submit your response.

4. Finding responses

Below the thread, you’ll see the number of unread responses. Click on ‘Status: Unread’ next to Filter By: to view these replies.Additionally, you can set up notifications for Discussions if you prefer to be alerted about new activity by clicking on the star under the subject of the discussion. You can then choose between different types of notifications:You can also do this for a specific thread. Again, click on the star below the subject line and then choose the type of notifications.
