1. How to send an email in Brightspace

Select the envelope symbol in the upper right corner of your Brightspace account. Select ‘Email’.You will be redirected to a new page where you can write the email. By clicking on ‘Address Book’ you can select students or teachers to whom you want to send the email.Check the students or teachers to whom the email should be sent and click on ‘Add Recipients’.A subject can be added to the email under ‘Subject,’ and the email text can be typed in the HTML box under ‘Body.’ Under ‘Attachments,’ a file can be added by clicking ‘Upload’ or ‘Choose existing’ to select a file already uploaded in Brightspace. By clicking ‘Record,’ a voice or video recording can be made and sent along. Under ‘Priority,’ the email priority can be set to low or high. Finally, click ‘Send’ to send the email.

2. How to email the entire workgroup

When you use this option, you will send a mail to every person in the course.  

Click on ‘Classlist’ under ‘Course Mangagement’ within a course.Begin to draft an email by clicking on ‘Email Classlist’.Click on ‘Send Email’:  a new window will be opened where you can write the email as described previously.

2.a. How is BCC incorporated? 

As soon as you select multiple contacts, all names and email addresses will always automatically be added to the BCC for privacy reasons.

2.b. How to select specific addressees  

Select students by clicking on the boxes next to their names. Click on ‘Email’ when you have selected everyone you want to mail. 

Filter between different types of users by using the button ‘View By’. With this you can find, for example, all your groups; click on ‘Apply’ to search for the selected group. For more information, see 3.Using the search bar, you can find people with their first and last names, their email address and their role. Use your enter button to generate your results. To select multiple different contacts, you tick the box next to their names. After making your selection, you click on ‘Email’ to add the selected people to a new email. In the example there was searched for the letter k. This generated two results, but only the selected user will be emailed when ‘Email’ will be clicked.

3. How to email groups within a workgroup

You can email groups within a course in two ways: via ‘Email Classlist’ and via ‘Groups’ under ‘Course Management’. 

Via ‘Email Classlist’: find the different groups by using the button ‘View by’, then clicking on ‘Groups’ and ‘Apply’.If you have multiple groups, you can find them under the subcategory ‘Groups’, which will appear after clicking on ‘apply’. To email the whole group, tick the uppermost box under the word ‘Email’, or select the correct names by using the steps in 2.b.Via ‘Groups’ under ‘Course Management’: select ‘Groups’ under ‘Course Management’:Select the correct group to email by checking a group. In this example, Group 1 is checked. 

4. Where to find sent emails

Click on the envelope symbol in the right-hand corner of your Brightspace account. Click on ‘email’.You will find your send mails after clicking the button ‘Sent Mail’ in the upper right corner of the screen.
