How do I use Quizzes?

This article explains what Quizzes are and how you can use them.  

You can use the Quizzes feature to create online tests. Quizzes can be checked and marked automatically by Brightspace. Quizzes have the following benefits: 

  • You can use a large number of question types and multimedia in questions.
  • You can see extensive quiz statistics and analysis.
  • You can make a report of the quiz to share data.
  • You can give effective and specific feedback on quizzes that have been made.
Quiz homepage 

Click ‘Tools’ on the navigation bar. Choose ‘Quizzes’ from the drop-down menu.You are now on the homepage for Quizzes. 

On the first tab of Quizzes (Manage Quizzes) you can find an overview of all quizzes you have created for a course, and you can create a new quiz with ‘New Quiz’. A step-by-step explanation of how to create new quizzes can be found in the manual How do I create a quiz?.You can change the categories of your quizzes ‘Edit Categories’. For example, you can put multiple quizzes of the same subject in a ‘category’, so you keep a good overview. Save your category with ‘Save and Close’.From the ‘More Actions menu’, you can: 

  • Add a goal (Add Learning Object), where you can, for example, publish the resources you used for your quiz.
  • Adjust quiz order (Reorder)
  • Make Quizzes (Un)Visible to/Hide from Users
  • Delete Quizzes

Back on the Quizzes homepage, you can sort your quizzes by Category or availability Availability: click on the arrow, select your choice and click ‘Apply’.In the overview under Current Quizzes, you can open the quick menu of a quiz via the arrow next to the title of the quiz (see the explanation of all shown options below).The Bulk Edit option allows you to quickly and easily change multiple quizzes at once. This is mainly useful for assigning categories of quizzes or to (de)activate quizzes.

In the overview under Current Quizzes you can open the quick menu of a quiz via the arrow next to the title of the quiz.The following options are possible here:

  • Edit to change the quiz
  • Make Visible/Hide to User to make the quiz (in)visible
  • Preview to preview a quiz or to go through the quiz as a student would see it. Clicking on it opens a page with the following options:
  • SelectBypass Restrictions’ at the top of your page, if you want to avoid any restrictions you’ve set for certain users, such as the maximum number of attempts someone has on your quiz.
  • Click ‘Start Quiz!’ at the bottom of the page to start the quiz.
  • Once you are done with the quiz, you can select at the bottom of the page whether you want to have this test attempt checked or not. Test attempts are never included in the statistics of your quiz.
  • When you’re done, clickExit Preview’ to close the preview. 

The following options are also available via the quick quiz menu: 

  • Delete to delete the quiz
  • Copy to copy the quiz
  • Grade to check the quiz
  • Setup Reports to prepare reports
  • View Reports to view the report of your quiz. Reports are only visible if you’ve set them up with Reports Setup;
  • Statistics to navigate to your quiz’s stats
  • Manage Exemptions to set exceptions for students
  • Attempt Logs for an overview of the quiz’s attempts
  • Publish to LOR to add your quiz in the LOR to either Copy Right Materials or the Instructor Repository, which are online repositories for copyrighted material and teachers. This is only necessary if your quiz uses content that applies to it.
