Update Jan 2026

We would like to provide some additional explanation about the use of Grade Schemes in the Gradebook (not applicable to University College and Veterinary Medicine). The use of Grade Scheme 1–10 sometimes leads to misunderstandings; therefore, we recommend using Grade Scheme 0–10.

Difference between Grade Value and Grade Scheme
When you choose Grade Scheme 1–10, the entered points are automatically converted to a scale from 1 to 10.

Example:
•    A grade value of 5.0 represents 50% of the total.
•    With Grade Scheme 1–10, this is displayed as a 5.5.

If both the original score (Grade Value) and the converted value (Grade Scheme) are shown, this can lead to confusion or discussion with students, as the conversion is often not intended. For this reason, we recommend using Grade Scheme 0–10.

From the next academic year onward, this will also be the default setting. More information can be found in the manual. If there are any questions, please contact the faculty key user.

Update Nov 2025

Recently, based on your feedback, we have added new functionalities to Brightspace. Below you will find an overview of the most important changes.

  • Launch of the Instructor Tools+ widget for exporting and importing results.
When you scroll down on the course page, you will see a new widget that allows you to more easily import and export grades and other results to and from the Grade Center. The export function generates a file suitable for import into Osiris. If you encounter situations where the widget does not work as expected, please report this to your faculty key user. We will continue to develop the widget, and your feedback helps us improve its functionality further.
  • When designing your course, it can be helpful to see Brightspace through the eyes of your students. For this purpose, the Brightspace Student Experience for Teachers has been developed. In this course, you can experience Brightspace from a student’s point of view. You can enroll in this course via this link or through the ‘Discover’ button on the Brightspace homepage. In Discover, you will also find various other e-modules that you can enroll in.
  • Want to learn more about Brightspace? Play the Illuminate escape room! You can now also play this game in the city center. Read more about the experiences of colleagues.
  • Curious how other instructors use Brightspace? Take a look at the Showcase Biotechnology and Society. Here you can view several example lessons from the actual course. These lessons give you a good impression of the course content and the many possible learning activities that Brightspace offers for sharing knowledge and skills.
  • Over 300 manuals are published on the Brightspace Support Site. Have you noticed that a manual is outdated or unhelpful? Scroll down and use the widget at the bottom of each page to report it. The feedback we receive is used to make improvements.
