Publishing Grades to Your Students
In Brightspace, it is possible to make a grade column invisible to students. This can be useful if you haven’t finished grading all students or if changes might still be made. To avoid confusion among students, you can choose to keep grades hidden and publish them all at once later.
Contents:
- Hiding Grade Items from all students
- Automatically Publishing Grade Items
- Publishing final grades
Hiding Grade Items from all students
- Click on Grades in the course’s Navbar.
- Select Manage Grades.
- Click the arrow next to the Grade Item and choose Hide From Users.
- An icon of an eye with a slash will now appear next to the Grade Item (see below). This hides the Grade Item and the associated grades from all students. When a Grade Item is hidden, grades can be adjusted without students seeing them. To make the column visible again, click the arrow and select Make Visible to Users.
Automatically Publishing Grade Items
- Click on Grades in the course’s Navbar.
- Select Manage Grades.
- Click the arrow next to the Grade Item and choose Edit.
- Go to the Restrictions tab.
- Hide From Users: Hides the Grade Item from all students.
- Use Availability if the Grade Item should only be visible during a specific time frame. Grades will remain hidden until the Start Date and will be hidden again after the End Date.
- Select Attach Existing to link an existing Release Condition to the grade, or click Create and Attach to create a new Release Condition.
- Click Save and Close.
Publishing Final Grades
Note! Grades in Brightspace do not hold official status. Final grades must always be registered in Osiris!
- Click on Grades in the Navbar.
- Select the Enter Grades tab.
- Click the arrow next to Final Calculated Grade.
- Select Enter Grades.
A new window will open where you can input grades, if they have not been automatically filled, and publish the grades. To publish a grade, check the box on the right-hand side under the Released column.
Note! Only students can be graded. Users with other roles cannot receive grades. If attempted, an error code will appear.
