How to set what students see at the end of a quiz?
Students receive a specific view with a message at the end of a quiz. This view can be edited to display additional information. This article explains how to adjust these settings. When students finish their quiz, they see the default message: “Your quiz has been submitted successfully.” This message can be edited, and you can choose which information is (in)visible to students (e.g., which questions they answered correctly, their score, the class average, etc.).
Go to the ‘Tools’ selection in the course navigation bar. Click on ‘Quizzes’ to access the quiz homepage, where you will see a list of all your quizzes.Click on the dropdown arrow next to the quiz name. From the list of actions, click ‘Edit’. You will be taken to the same screen as when creating a new quiz. For more information on creating quizzes, refer to the manual “How do I create a quiz?“.Navigate to ‘Evaluation and Feedback’ on the right-hand side of the screen and click it.Navigate to ‘Customize Quiz Results and Displays’ and click it.Click on ‘Edit View’ to modify the default settings.Click on ‘Additional View’ to create a custom display. For each quiz you can choose to use either the default view or a custom view.
Default view
Here you can see the Primary View. This is the default display students see after completing a quiz.
The default message can be changed under Custom Message.
Select ‘Display attempt grade for evaluated questions’ if students can see their score on the evaluated quiz questions.Use the dropdown menu under Questions to choose the information students can view:
- Select Don’t Show if students are not allowed to see the questions.
- Select All Questions if students are allowed to see all questions. You can then configure whether they can also view their answers.
- Select Correct Questions Only with Learner’s Responses if students are only allowed to see the questions they answered correctly.
- Select Incorrect Questions Only with Learner’s Responses if students are allowed to see only the questions they answered incorrectly.
Under Statistics you can:
- Select Display class average if students are allowed to see the class average score.
- Select Display grade distribution if students are allowed to see how other students performed on each question.
Click ‘Update’ to save the settings.Note: Questions requiring manual grading (such as open-ended questions) automatically receive a score of zero. For questions where students must provide their own answers, it is recommended not to select Show questions score and out of score and Show attempt score and overall attempt score to avoid giving students an incorrect impression of their results.
Additional view
Click ‘Additional View’ to create a custom display. For each quiz, you can choose to use either the default view or a custom view. An additional view can be helpful if you want to display different data or information than usual. These extra views can be scheduled to activate at specific times.Set a date. Entering a date can be useful if the answers need to be displayed, but also to prevent faster students from giving answers to slower students.(Optional) Add a message under Custom Message. You can also set the date and time when the message will appear, and how long the message will remain visible for a specific number of minutes. To limit the visibility of the message to IP addresses that also have access to the corresponding quiz, click on ‘The same IP restrictions as the quiz’.
When using this option, IP restrictions must first be set when creating the quiz (see the ‘Availability Dates and Conditions’ section in the manual “How do I create a quiz?“).Click on ‘Create’ to save the Additional View.Good to know about Additional Views:
If additional views have been created alongside the default view, the overview with the earliest date and time will automatically be displayed. When ‘Customize Quiz Results Displays’ is clicked, an overview of the additional views that have been created will appear.
If one of these views needs to be used instead of the default view, the date and time must be set to the current date and time.
The default settings are still visible but will be overridden by the newly added view.
