How do I grade a group assignment?
There are two ways to grade a group assignment:
- To give all group members the same grade, you link the group assignment to a grade item and then give a grade via Assignments. Read the manual “How do Grade Items work” before this one to become familiar with grade items!
- If students need differing individual grades, you can use Grades.
Both ways will be explained in this manual
Assessing using Assignments
First, the group assignment must be linked to a grade item. Navigate to ‘Tools’ > ‘Assignments’.On the screen below, click on the arrow next to the relevant assignment and select ‘Edit Assignment’.Next, under the header ‘Grade Out Of’, click on ‘Edit or Link to Existing’.Select the relevant grade item that you made. Then click on ‘Save and Close’ on the bottom of the screen. You have now linked the group assignment to the grade item.Select the assignment again, then click on ‘Submissions’.You will see the submissions from all students at the bottom. Click on the relevant submission.Just like when grading individual assignments, you can give a grade and potential feedback here. Finally, click on ‘Publish’ to give all group members the same grade and feedback, or click on ‘Save Draft’ to save your grade and feedback but not show it to students.
Assessing using Grades
Select ‘Grades’ in the course toolbar from the yellow bar on the top of your screen.Click on ‘Manage Grades’ under the yellow bar.Below the arrow next to the relevant submission, click on ‘Enter Grades’.Below the ‘Grades’ header you can adjust the grades accordingly for each individual student. The same goes for the feedback.
