New Accessibilty Tool In Brightspace
As of today, the new tool for improving digital accessibility in Brightspace has gone live. It could take a few days for all the courses to be processed. Documents and HTML pages have been evaluated by the tool for accessibility. Below are the main functionalities:
- Accessibility report: Displays a document or HTML page with a list of accessibility issues and recommended solutions next to it. Adjustments can be made and uploaded immediately. Accessible via the Alternative formats menu and the Accessibility report option at the top.
- Course report: Overview of issues and accessibility across all materials in a course, including changes over time. Accessible through the menu bar option Course Admin and then Accessibility.
- Alternative formats (also for students): Material can be converted into various alternative formats. This menu opens when you click the accessibility icon. Note: Students do not see a score, only a blue icon (or grey if Alternative formats has been disabled by the instructor).
- Accessibility widget (also for students): The Accessibility Widget has been added at the bottom right of Brightspace (round icon with a figure inside). This allows you to adjust the appearance of Brightspace to some extent according to your own preferences, for example by changing color, contrast, and font size.
