Access to Brightspace
Access to Brightspace
Every Utrecht University employee receives a Brightspace account and can log in with a SolisID. This also applies to the guest roles of UMCU guest and guest lecturer LMS. Access to guest roles is valid from the start date to the end date of the guest identity.
Creation of course editions for the next academic year in Brightspace from June 1st
Courses will be visible in Osiris from June 1st to lecturers with the correct role associated with the course. The course may not become visible until later, if the course has not yet been finalized or if the decision to transfer the course to Brightspace has not yet been made.
A colleague can add you to the course
You can have a colleague add you to the course; see these instructions.
Not listed in Osiris for the course? It is preferable to update the roles in Osiris because other applications such as Caracal and the Video Platform also use these roles to assign permissions. Students see courses they are enrolled in.
Students only have access from the course start date. As an instructor, you can change this if necessary.
Do you want to remove the entire course from your overview?
If teaching in Brightspace is not desired for a course, set the option for “Continue to Brightspace” to “No” in Osiris (this will archive all editions). To archive individual editions, you can request your key user to manually deactivate a course in Brightspace. Please note that you may then have to manually add student enrollments to the other edition.
Archiving and Deleting Courses
After 5.5 years, courses are archived by the administrator; after 6.5 years, they are deleted in accordance with the archive policy.
Consult the Course Stages in Brightspace for identifying the course stages in the My Courses overview. This article provides more information about the integration with Osiris.
