Videos

This guide contains three main sections:

Upload video

If you have already uploaded the video, you can skip this step.

1. Navigate to ‘Content’ in the course menu bar.
   
2. Select the folder where you want to upload the video.
3. Click the “Add Existing” button.
   
4. Click ‘browse’ and add your video from your computer.
   

Open video editing environment

1. Within Content, select the video.
2. Click the three dots in the top right corner.
3. Click “Edit”.
   
4. On this screen, you can adjust details such as title, expiry date, and visibility. To edit the video, click “Advanced editing”.

Edit video

With the video editor, you can add a table of contents (using chapters), trim the video, and add captions. These options are explained in sections 3a, 3b, and 3c respectively.

Add a table of contents

1. Type the title of a chapter.
2. Click “+” to add the chapter.
3. Do this for all chapters you want to add.
4. (a)Change the start times of the chapters by first clicking the stopwatch icon of the relevant chapter (to the right of start time).
   (b)Then move the blue bar to the correct start time. Repeat this for each chapter. See the image on the next page for a visualisation.
5. Click the Finish button when you are done, or Save Draft to save your progress.

Trim part of the video

The steps are visually shown in the image on the next page.

1. Select the “|” to the right of the timeline.
2. Select the start time on the timeline of the section you want to remove. A marker will be placed at that time. This is also referred to as the “in point”.
3. Select the end time on the timeline of the section you want to remove. A marker will also be placed at that time. This is also referred to as the “out point”.
   Note: You can add as many markers as you want using the “|” icon. Whether something is an in or out point depends on which section you are looking at. It does not matter if you mark the end point or the in point first.
4. Select the scissors icon on the right side of the timeline.
5. Click the section in the timeline (with in and out point) that you want to remove. A section can only be removed if it has a marker on both sides. If this is completed successfully, the removed section will turn red. If so, this part will be skipped when the video is played.
6. Click the Finish button when you are done, or Save Draft to save your progress.

Add captions to the video

1. Go to “Closed Captions”
2. Check if the displayed language in the dropdown menu matches the language you want to use for the captions.
3. Click Auto-generate.
4. Click Auto-generate in the confirmation pop-up.
5. Auto-generation can take up to an hour, depending on the size of the video.

Add existing caption file to the video

1. Go to the “Closed Captions” tab.
2. Click the upload button.
3. Open your WebVTT (.vtt) or Subrip (.srt) caption file using the pop-up that appears. Other file formats than .vtt or .srt will not be accepted.
4. Click the Finish button when you are done, or Save Draft to save your progress.

Edit captions

Go to “Closed Captions”:

1. Edit the caption text: The captions are displayed in text blocks, as they are shown when the video is played. Click a text block to edit its text.
2. Edit the start or end time of a caption block: Click the triangle icon under the trash icon. A menu will appear, where you can enter the start and end time.
3. Add new captions manually: You can also add new captions by typing in the text box that says: “New captions text…”. Type your caption text here and add it by pressing enter or clicking the ‘+’ icon to the left of this text box. If you want to adjust the start and end time, follow step 2.

Click the Finish button when you are done, or Save Draft to save your progress.
