What are Grade schemes?
A Grade Scheme in Brightspace is a mandatory system used to make grades understandable and to present them to students. It is used to convert numerical scores (such as percentages or points earned) into specific labels, such as letters (A, B, C), text (“Pass”, “Fail”, “Excellent”), or rounded percentages.
The scheme does not change the points, but it does change the way they are displayed.
Below is an example table showing how grades are displayed when 50 out of 100 points have been entered in Brightspace.
| Grade Scheme name | Given points in Grades | Shown Grade Scheme symbol |
|---|---|---|
| Percentage (default) | 50/100 | 50 % |
| Grade 0-10, rounded off at 0,01 | 50/100 | 5,00 |
| Grade 0-10, rounded off at 0,1 | 50/100 | 5,0 |
| Grade 1-10, rounded off at 0,1 | 50/100 | 5,5 |
| Letter | 50/100 | C |
In addition to the Grade Schemes above, you can also choose from 3 other schemes:
- Attendance
- From 0 to 50% “Did not attend” is displayed
- From 50 to 100% “Sick – Approved” is displayed
- At exactly 100% “Attended” is displayed
- Pass/Fail and Voldoende/Onvoldoende
- From 0 to 55% “Fail” or “Onvoldoende” is displayed
- From 55 to 100% “Pass” or “Voldoende” is displayed
